I believe, for those who use computers, they have ever asked themselves “why is my computer running slow”. Actually, it is normal for a computer to run slow over time. But there are still some ways for us to effectively avoid a slow computer.

Though many factors result in a slow computer, normally they are due to the following aspects:

1) Infected by viruses;
2) Overloaded startup items;
3) Too fragmented hard drive;
4) Corrupted Windows registry.

And here is what you should do to stop your computer from slowing down or avoid a slow computer.

1. Regularly run virus scan. Viruses are notoriously known for eating up system resource and slowing down computer. So it is recommended that you can run a trusted anti-virus program on a regular basic to well protect your computer from being attached by viruses.

2. Disable the unneeded startup items. If you computer takes very longer time to boot, it might be caused by the excessive startup programs. They will run out off valuable system resources. By disabling the unneeded startup programs, you will see your computer start much faster.

3. Run a disk defragmentation. Lots of PC users always ignore this point when trying to fix a slow computer. In fact, it is wrong. A simple disk defragmentation helps to rearrange the files on the hard drive, making them always coherently and much easier to be reached. So do remember to run a defragment process at least once a week in order to avoid a slow computer. If time does not permit, you should defragment it under the below circumstances:

1) When there is only 15% available disk space.
2) After uninstalling programs or remove large amount of folders from the computer.
3) After installing programs/ windows updates, or storing folders on the computer.
4. Fix registry errors.

Registry, which stores of your hardware and software information, decides the proper running of Windows and programs installed on the computer. But as you install/ uninstall programs, registry errors occur inevitably. Registry error will result in overall slowdown, which lots of PC users can not bear. Besides, it also makes the programs freeze or crash randomly. Seriously, it will configure your computer’s boot options and then disable boot up. To avoid a slow computer, a regular registry cleanup is vitally needed.
